So what's up with the record, eh? Well, after 5 months, here's where we are. Dan's drums, J.'s bass and Tom's rhythm guitars are done! I've got my rhythm guitars done on 4 songs, and the rest will follow soon.
If you're wondering why it's taking so long, here's the deal. Subtract 6 weeks for the time I was away on tour with the mighty NAPALM DEATH. Then factor in that everyone's got a day job, and that we're recording in busy studio and you can see that it hasn't been 5 months of non-stop work. I haven't turned into Tom Scholz of BOSTON or Robert 'Mutt' Lange, nitpicking at every detail. Sure, we're talking our time and getting it right, but this is METAL!! There's gonna be a flaw or 2... fun things for the fans to find, eh? Hell, 2 of my favourite albums of all time, SLAYER's Reign In Blood and OVERKILL's The Years Of Decay have mistakes with the first few seconds (listen closely!!). Which leads me to...
We felt the 10th song, "Engines," had to be recorded again from scratch. It was just a little off, and it's gotta be right. So on Thursday, the 27th of January, everyone got their instrumental parts done on that song in one evening. I am hoping to have the rest of my rhythm guitar parts done in the coming week, leaving only the vocals, lead guitars and assorted other overdubs to perform. Our target date to get all the tracking finished is the end of February.
While I was away Dan, J. and Tom got started on new material. We also have a song leftover -- "Spiders" -- from our initial writing sessions. So we are already thinking about the 2nd record, and we have an idea for an 'in between' EP that'd be really cool if we go with it.
So the kettle is percolating...it just hasn't come to a boil yet. We're really itching to get this thing done, but we won't rush it. We have the luxury of time, something that was never available before.
More news soon, fer sure. Maybe we can post some sound clips at some point?!?
Cheers,
CJ Scioscia
